About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused Service Advisor to join our team at Keshen Goodman Public Library. As a Service Advisor, you will play a key role in providing exceptional customer service to our diverse community, answering questions, and providing information on library resources and services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with library users, providing a welcoming and inclusive environment.
  • Answer customer inquiries, provide readers' advisory services, and refer to appropriate staff as needed.
  • Handle cash, credit, and debit transactions, including fines, refunds, and voids.
  • Perform opening and closing duties, including balancing cash, preparing deposits, and maintaining cash float.
  • Foster a safe environment for library staff and users, monitoring public use of facilities and responding to safety concerns.
  • Promote and display library materials, programs, and services.
  • Assist with Service Support duties as required.
Working with Material Handling
  • Check out materials and assist customers with self-check-out.
  • Handle registration and maintenance of library user accounts.
  • Select and refer materials for specific clients, including Home Delivery, Borrow by Mail, ELL, and Literacy tutors and learners.
  • Provide collection maintenance support, including sorting, processing, repairing, or discarding library materials.
Working with Programming
  • Host, facilitate, and/or deliver programs, events, and library tours.
  • Plan program activities within established frameworks or in an area of personal expertise.
  • Promote or provide library services at community sites.
Working with Technology
  • Assist customers with the library catalogue, electronic resources, Internet, social media, and word processing.
  • Assist customers with personal electronic devices, including tablets and phones.
  • Assist customers with printing, scanning, photocopying, and faxing.
  • Troubleshoot library computers and related equipment.
Requirements
  • Completion of Grade Twelve (12) or equivalent and three (3) years of related experience.
  • Read and write English.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Basic math skills for cash handling.
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills, including Microsoft Office applications and social media.
  • Intermediate technology skills, including willingness to learn and experiment with additional tools and technologies.
Assets
  • Fluency in a second language.
  • Previous work experience in a library.
  • Experience with public speaking, performance, or hosting events.
