Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Laboratory Assistant to join our Testing team at Canadian Blood Services. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the delivery of products, processes, and services that provide life-saving treatments for Canadians.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accession patient samples for testing, pack blood components for delivery, and receive stock blood components and returned components into inventory.
  • Prepare phosphate buffered saline (PBS) for use on automation and perform reagent lot release.
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure the safety and quality of blood products, integrity of testing, and a safe environment for equipment operators.

Requirements:

  • Completion of secondary education and minimum 1 year of laboratory work experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Technical skills including MS Office, and the ability to learn systems and programs, as required.
  • Good oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions precisely, prepare and maintain accurate records, and carry out repetitive tasks.

Work Environment:

  • Monday-Friday, 7am-3pm or 6am-2pm schedule.
