Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Professional Marine Underwriting Specialist to join our team at Intact Financial Corporation. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and developing our marine underwriting business, working closely with brokers, and ensuring that our clients receive the best possible service.

Responsibilities
  • Accept, reject, endorse, renew or cancel policies following Intact's underwriting guidelines and procedures, applicable laws and regulations and subject to authority level as specified by underwriting manager.
  • Foster sustainable profitable growth in the marine underwriting business.
  • Develop business opportunities and long-term meaningful relationships with brokers.
  • Maintain effective communication and negotiation skills to maintain healthy relationships within and outside the company.
  • Respond to broker requests and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Participate in broker visits, industry functions, and marketing events in support of broker relationship development.
  • Rates and prepares quotes for new business and renewals.
  • Handles policy transactions including renewals, endorsements, and cancellations.
  • Reviews underwriting reports and makes recommendations as required.
  • Communicates changes related to product pricing, underwriting guidelines, and new products.
  • Supports and mentors team members within Coast Underwriters as well as other divisions at Intact.
Requirements
  • University degree/College diploma or any combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience. Prior Marine experience is a desirable asset.
  • Strong customer service and time management skills.
  • Demonstrates initiative, ability to work under pressure, and flexibility to change.
  • Strong team player possessing outstanding collaboration and communication skills.
  • Inquisitive and self-motivated individual possessing strong analytical and negotiating skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain excellent relationships with brokers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to make decisions in time-sensitive situations, address complex problems, provide recommended course of action, and take calculated risks.
  • Interested in and stay up-to-date on business trends or other developments impacting our industry.
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • CIP designation or working towards designation.
  • No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.
