About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to join our team at Groundwork Engineering Limited as a Project Manager. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional with advanced skills in AutoCAD Civil 3D and leadership expertise to lead both municipal infrastructure and land development projects.

Role Description:

  • Design and plan civil engineering works, including roads, culverts, drainage systems, onsite wastewater treatment systems, and stormwater management facilities using the latest software and best practices.
  • Provide detailed production of engineering designs, drawings, and specifications for various civil projects, including municipal, land development, water and wastewater, site drainage, road works, and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Work from preliminary concepts and sketches into engineering designs, plans, and project informational requirements using Civil 3D, as well as other technical software as needed.
  • Coordinate and assist in the preparation of documents required for approvals, prepare construction cost estimates, tender documents, and contracts, as well as coordinate with other team members to ensure schedules, budgets, and quality control standards are achieved.
  • Lead and manage civil engineering projects from inception to completion, ensuring that they meet the client's needs and expectations.
  • Work closely with other engineers, technicians, contractors, and stakeholders by communicating effectively with them throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Attend, contribute to, and lead internal and external project meetings.
  • Engage and work with clients and regulatory authorities to obtain approvals for design work.
  • Review the preparation of technical reports and present technical material in innovative ways for review by technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Understand industry trends and best practices in the civil and infrastructure markets and participate in local Professional Associations.
  • Complete field inspections to monitor the quality and progress of the work being performed.
  • Assist with construction management and contract administration.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Assist in operations including business development, invoicing, workload, safety, quality, and financial outcomes.
  • Represent Groundwork to the external environment including clients, businesses, and professional associations to enhance Groundwork's positive public profile.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and are a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Ontario or have the ability to obtain registration through existing inter-jurisdictional agreements.
  • Must possess a minimum of 7 years of experience in civil engineering design and planning.
  • Experience in stormwater management and wastewater treatment systems is an asset.
  • Proficient in using civil engineering software, such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, SLOPW, hydraulic modelling tools, and Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and strong computer skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Scheduler).
  • Have a strong background and knowledge of civil engineering principles, standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Must demonstrate excellent project management and leadership skills and can manage multiple projects simultaneously with tight deadlines and budgets.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills and can work harmoniously with clients, partners, and team members.
  • Experience with all government levels, construction standards, contract administration, construction contractors, and developers would be an asset.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to details and can apply innovative and creative solutions to complex engineering problems.
  • Proven ability to attract and retain clients, win projects, and consistently provide high-quality deliverables on time and on budget.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to project sites and attend onsite meetings as required.
  • Presentation skills with colleagues and clients of all levels.
  • An aptitude for quality, thoughtful design, continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and relationship building.
