Job Summary


WJS Canada is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Residential Child and Youth Care Worker to join our team. In this rewarding role, you will provide support and care to individuals in a residential setting, promoting their physical, emotional, and psychological well-being.



Key Responsibilities



  • Participate in assessing, setting goals, and evaluating progress of individuals served
  • Teach individuals to relate in a socially appropriate manner through daily routines and activities
  • Monitor individuals and ensure their safety and well-being, utilizing practices that promote health, welfare, safety, and security
  • Provide behavior management counseling, including feedback, coping techniques, and adaptive behavior guidance
  • Provide emotional support and crisis intervention, including non-violent physical interventions
  • Ensure communication and liaison between program, school, family, and community
  • Meet physical needs of individuals, including basic personal hygiene and activities of daily living
  • Administer medications according to established guidelines and procedures
  • Maintain reports and statistics, logbooks, and daily activities
  • Perform household duties, meal preparation, and cleaning
  • Accompany individuals to appointments and community outings
  • Participate in the OHS Committee as required
  • Operate motor vehicles safely and legally while transporting individuals or on WJS business
  • Advocate effectively for individuals
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as required


Requirements



  • Child and Youth Care degree or diploma, or diploma or degree in a related field
  • Minimum two years of recent related experience in child and youth care, emergency shelter, or a combination of relevant education and experience
  • Previous experience with trauma-informed practice
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and clean driver's abstract with a reliable, safe vehicle and appropriate insurance
  • Valid CPR/First Aid, WHMIS, and Food Hygiene and Sanitation certificates, or ability to obtain within probation period
  • Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention Certificate (NVCI) and/or MANDT and Conflict Resolution Certificate, or ability to obtain within probation period
  • Physician's note confirming suitability, including immunization records and a negative tuberculosis screening test
  • Prior experience with implementing Behavioral Interventions
  • Prior experience in Trauma-Informed Practices
  • Participation in MCFD screening prior to confirmed employment with WJS Canada
  • Three professional references available for contact at time of interview
