Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Garbage and Recycling Collection Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our collection crew, you will be responsible for collecting and processing recyclable materials from donation bins, ensuring that all work areas are maintained and cleaned, and collaborating with collection supervisors to maintain bin condition and replace them as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Properly handle products collected from donation bins.
  • Maintain all work areas, including product loading areas, collection bin sites, and trailer sites, ensuring they are clean and operational.
  • Collaborate with collection supervisors to ensure bin maintenance and replacements are performed as required.
  • Dispose of garbage collected from the collection bin at the dump yard and warehouse compactors on a daily basis.
  • Scan and access all products collected from home pick-up locations, ensuring they are resalable and compliant with company standards.
  • Schedule product deliveries and pickups to Talize stores as needed.
  • Assist the administration team in collecting company supplies from vendors as required.
  • Report any incidents or accidents to the immediate supervisor or manager for further action.
  • Familiarize yourself with company protocols and transportation laws for commercial trucks and ensure compliance with the Ministry of Transportation.
  • Perform vehicle maintenance to ensure it remains in operational condition before each shift.
  • Maintain good communication with third-party vendors and customers to provide effective customer service.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude towards fellow workers, donors, and customers on a regular basis.

Requirements
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working as a driver or in a similar capacity.
  • At least 25 years of age.
  • Experience driving an 18-24 feet truck/vehicle.
  • Possess a G license with a good driver's abstract.

Competencies
  • Communication skills – must be able to read and speak English well enough to understand road signs, prepare reports, and communicate with law enforcement officers and the public.
  • Integrity and honesty – must be able to work with complete honesty and dedication by showing up to work on time and completing assigned tasks.
  • Decision making – clear understanding of the products to be collected from donation sites.
  • Tactful and people skills – aware of surroundings and situations, reacting accordingly.
  • Flexibility – extremely flexible to perform various job duties and adapt to schedules.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment
  • Ability to drive for long periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs or more without assistance.
  • Ability to stand for long periods.
  • Physically alert while driving vehicles.
