Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced janitorial and maintenance professional to join our team. As a Part Time Janitorial and Maintenance Associate, you will be responsible for performing janitorial duties, providing maintenance and grounds keeping services, and ensuring the overall cleanliness and upkeep of our facilities.
Responsibilities:
- Perform daily cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting.
- Clean and maintain washrooms, including toilets, sinks, countertops, shower fixtures, and floors.
- Inspect and clean furniture as needed, and ensure that all surfaces are free from dirt and debris.
- Vacuum all carpeted areas, sweep and mop all tiled floors, and clean exterior ground floor windows and glass doors.
- Refill cleaning supplies, remove garbage and recycling, and maintain inventory of cleaning products.
- Maintain the janitor's closet, ensuring it is organized and well-stocked.
- Report any damage to property or equipment to the Program Supervisor or designate, and respond to emergencies on an on-call basis.
- Safely store and maintain all related equipment and supplies in the appropriate storage spaces provided.
Interior Maintenance:
- Perform minor repairs and basic painting as required.
- Conduct miscellaneous minor maintenance tasks, such as ensuring interior lights are equipped with operable bulbs.
Exterior Maintenance:
- Keep the exterior of the building safe and in good repair.
- Conduct miscellaneous minor maintenance tasks, such as ensuring exterior light fixtures are equipped with operable bulbs.
Other Duties:
- Write detailed incident reports and report serious occurrences immediately to the supervisor.
- Assist management in inspections of the property when required.
- Undertake other assignments requested by the supervisor or designate that are compatible with this job description.
- Required to attend and assist with any serious emergency on a 24-hour basis, including fire alarms, major floods, major disturbances, etc.
- Able to lift, pull, push, and install furniture and equipment.
Working Conditions:
- This is a permanent part-time position based on 10 hours per week.
- The work schedule will be set by your supervisor.
- On-call availability required.
- The work environment is typically throughout the building and external grounds.
- The performance of the job requires mopping/sweeping, bending/twisting/lifting, and vacuuming.
- The incumbent is required to have the ability to lift/move up to 30 pounds.
- The performance of the job requires moderate to high attention when handling hazardous chemicals and using general cleaning equipment.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- The successful job applicant will have completed High School.
- Must have valid WHMIS training.
Experience and Knowledge:
- A minimum of three (3) months prior related experience, including general familiarity with cleaning and maintenance procedures.
- Demonstrate janitorial, housekeeping and maintenance skills at a professional level.
Skills and Capabilities:
- Professional level of cleaning methods and procedures.
- Satisfactory communication skills which include an ability to narrate an incident.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work within the mandate of and embrace the mission of The Salvation Army.
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
- Read and follow the Policy and Procedures.
- Work within agency fire safety, health & safety and emergency procedures.
- Participate in yearly formal evaluation.
- Be punctual and work all hours scheduled, advising the Program Supervisor or designate anytime this is not possible following protocol.
- Participate in staff development as required.
- Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
Salary:
$22-$28 per hour, estimated annual salary: $46,240 - $58,240.
