About This Opportunity

This unique part-time position is available to a skilled Family Physician with expertise in Care of the Elderly. The role covers services for patients residing in Hants County, referred by their primary care providers for concerns such as Falls, Memory Loss, Polypharmacy, Dementia, Anxiety, Depression, Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia, Caregiver Burnout, and Capacity Assessments. Referrals may come from various sources including out-patient settings, inpatient facilities (mainly Hants Community Hospital), and local Nursing Homes. As a Family Physician in this role, you can expect to see approximately new consults per year and numerous follow-ups. You will collaborate with teams that include Continuing Care Coordinators, Social Work and Nursing professionals, Geriatric colleagues, and Seniors Mental Health specialists in Halifax for complex cases. Additionally, you will work with out-patient Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy teams, the Seniors Link Program in Kings County, and the Alzheimer's Society of Nova Scotia.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough examinations, take patient histories, order diagnostic tests, and advise patients on healthcare, health promotion, and disease prevention.
  • Provide consultation and referral services to other medical practitioners as needed.
  • Act as a patient advocate, ensuring their needs are met and their voices heard.
  • Prescribe and administer medications, treatments, inoculations, and vaccinations safely and effectively.
  • Report deaths, contagious diseases, and other public health concerns as required by Nova Scotia Public Health regulations.
Compensation and Benefits

You will be remunerated through the AFP at $/hour, for a maximum of 16 hours per week. This part-time opportunity offers a great work-life balance, allowing you to focus on your professional development and personal well-being while making a meaningful impact in your community.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
  • Eligibility for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)
  • Certification with the Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
