Job Title: Specialist, Intervenor for the Deafblind Community

At CNIB Deafblind Community Services, we are committed to empowering individuals who are Deafblind to maximize their independence and engagement with the world around them.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Specialist, Intervenor to join our team. As a Specialist, Intervenor, you will provide one-on-one support and guidance to individuals who are Deafblind, facilitating their interaction with their environment and empowering them to actively participate in their community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide sighted guide and environmental information to individuals who are Deafblind
  • Facilitate access to information and facilitate communication
  • Work collaboratively with individuals to determine their level of support
  • Empower individuals to participate in their community, including recreation, education, and self-advocacy
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Knowledge of Deafblindness, Deaf/Deafblind culture, and common associated health-related concerns
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivation and flexibility with the ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Preferred Qualifications:

We welcome applicants with:

  • Diploma or degree in the human services field or related experience
  • Experience working with individuals who are Deafblind or willingness to learn and practice related alternate formats of communication
  • Experience working with diverse client populations
