Job Summary:
The Chief Mate is a key member of the vessel's deck team, responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the ship. Reporting directly to the Master, the Chief Mate oversees all aspects of deck operations, including navigation, cargo handling, and crew supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Apply Company Quality, Health & Safety, and Environmental Policies in all aspects of deck operations and maintenance.
- Oversee navigation of the vessel, including route planning and execution.
- Supervise activities of the deck crew, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and procedures.
- Coordinate loading and unloading of cargo, ensuring timely and efficient operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Master, ensuring the smooth operation of the vessel.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Chief Mate Certificate issued by Transport Canada.
- Specialized Oil Tanker Training Endorsement.
- Radio Operator's License (or GOC).
- Certificate of Proficiency for Vessel Personnel with Security Responsibilities.
- Great Lakes Pilotage Authority (GLPA) certificate holder (preferred).
- Canadian passport or permanent residence status.
- Minimum 2 years recent experience in a similar role.
- Experience with Safety Management Systems.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
