About the Opportunity

As an Orthoptist with Nova Scotia Health, you will play a critical role in the diagnosis and management of disorders of eye movements and associated visual dysfunctions. You will perform a series of highly specialized investigative procedures to document and diagnose eye movement disorders, interpreting diagnostic data and making recommendations to referring ophthalmologists regarding treatment options.

The Orthoptist assumes responsibility for follow-up of patients undergoing orthoptic treatment and those requiring successive evaluation, conferring with the referring Ophthalmologist regarding surgical and/or medical treatment where appropriate and counseling patients regarding ocular diagnoses, treatment plans, and outcome expectations.

About You

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Orthoptist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a baccalaureate degree plus two year training program, or Master's degree in clinical vision science, and be a graduate of an accredited Orthoptics/Ophthalmic Medical Technologists program. Certification by the Canadian Orthoptic Council and JCAHPO certification at the technologist level are also required.

The successful candidate will have excellent organizational, time management, stress management, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to set priorities and work independently. Competencies in other languages, particularly French, are an asset.

Hours and Compensation

This is a permanent part-time position, with 60 hours biweekly. The hourly rate is $43.80. Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
