About the Opportunity

The Orthoptist role at Nova Scotia Health is a highly specialized position that requires a strong foundation in the diagnosis and management of disorders of eye movements and associated visual dysfunctions. As an Orthoptist, you will perform a series of investigative procedures to document and diagnose eye movement disorders, interpret diagnostic data, and make recommendations to referring ophthalmologists regarding treatment options.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of orthoptic principles and practices, as well as excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills. They will also have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to providing high-quality patient care.

About You

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual who is passionate about delivering exceptional patient care. The ideal candidate will have a baccalaureate degree plus two year training program, or Master's degree in clinical vision science, and be certified by the Canadian Orthoptic Council JCAHPO certification at the technologist level.

Previous orthoptic technologist experience is preferred, but not required. The successful candidate will have excellent organizational, time management, stress management, communication, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to set priorities and work independently.

Hours and Compensation

This is a permanent part-time position, with 60 hours biweekly. The successful candidate will be compensated at a rate of $43.80 hourly, and may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
