Job Description

Microchip's Data Center Solutions Business Unit (DCS) is seeking an experienced Technical Manager - System Validation Lead to join our team. As a key member of our System Validation group, you'll work closely with world-class system integrators to bring up, integrate, and validate cutting-edge System on a Chip (SoC) products.

You'll manage a team of talented system engineers responsible for integrating and validating pre-silicon and first-silicon prototype SOCs, ensuring they meet design specs, performance expectations, and industry standards before releasing them to production.

Responsibilities
  • Manage daily activities of the validation team, ensuring high-quality releases of prototype devices meeting design specs, industry specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Lead a team of system engineers in planning, developing, and building boards, test infrastructure, tools, and test firmware for complex SoC validation.
  • Develop comprehensive validation plans and lead their implementation and execution on emulation and first-silicon.
  • Technically lead the team in SOC bring-up and HW/FW integration while collaborating with other functional groups.
  • Manage test execution schedules, priorities, resources, and track progress, ensuring well-documented, reviewed, and archived test results.
  • Grow, train, and mentor your team.
  • Plan, source, and manage all required project resources, actively monitoring plan execution and developing schedule and test coverage contingency plans.
  • Oversee project budget and plan spending forecasts.
  • Manage lab infrastructure and collaborate with test equipment vendors to secure and evaluate cutting-edge equipment.
  • Develop improvements to test execution methodology and test coverage.
  • Lead investigation teams, track defects, and assist in troubleshooting complex technical problems.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science.
  • 12+ years of engineering experience, with 3+ years in leadership or management roles.
  • Experience in IC, FW, and SoC validation.
  • Experience defining comprehensive test coverage at sub-block and system levels.
  • Experience defining and building HW and FW test infrastructure.
  • Experience managing complex validation boards and overseeing manufacturing logistics.
  • Experience automating and optimizing test coverage.
  • Experience leading small teams in resolving complex problems.
  • Experience in project planning, task estimates, and schedule tracking.
  • Experience working with prototype ICs, boards, and HW infrastructure.
  • Experience in multi-tasking technical and non-technical issues.
  • Familiarity with PCIe, SAS, DDR, SPI, or similar interfaces, and prior validation experience in this area at electrical and/or protocol levels.
  • Exposure to ASIC, SOC, or FW development processes.
  • Experience in debug and investigation of SoC issues.
  • Experience in performance validation and power characterization.
  • Exposure to industry compliance workshops and standards working groups.
  • Experience managing lab infrastructure.
  • Experience in quality assurance processes, ISO9001, and audits.
  • Knowledge of uProcessor architecture, data communication, and digital design theory.
  • Knowledge of circuit theory and high-speed signal fundamentals.
  • Experience working and leading teams in lab environments and knowledge of relevant test equipment and protocol analyzers.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environments and quickly adapt to new technologies and solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Salary

The estimated salary for this position is $107,000-$226,000 per year, depending on numerous factors including job location, skills, and experience.
