About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Welder Apprentice to join our team at CANMEX WELDING INC. as a Fabrication and Repair Specialist. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for fabricating and repairing metal parts and products using various welding techniques.

Key Responsibilities
  • Welding and Fabrication: Operate manual or semi-automatic, fully automated welding equipment to fabricate or repair metal parts and products.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and perform minor repairs on welding, brazing, and soldering equipment.
  • Material Handling: Sort metal sheets and parts, scrap metal, and other materials.
  • Cleaning and Preparation: Operate metal cleaning equipment to remove excess welds, rust, scale, and other materials from surfaces of metal products.
  • Assistance and Support: Assist structural steel and platework fitters, sheet metal workers, metal machine operators, or other metal workers as needed.
Requirements
  • Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience.
  • Work Experience: 1 year to less than 2 years of experience in a related field.
  • Language: English is the primary language of communication.
  • Work Environment: Fast-paced environment with handling of heavy loads, physically demanding tasks, and attention to detail.
  • Physical Capabilities: Standing for extended periods, handling up to 23 kg (50 lbs) of weight.
Working Conditions
  • Work Schedule: 35 to 40 hours per week.
  • Work Environment: Dusty, noisy, and dirty work site environment.
