About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Welder Apprentice to join our team at CANMEX WELDING INC. as a Fabrication and Repair Specialist. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for fabricating and repairing metal parts and products using various welding techniques.

Key Responsibilities
  • Welding and Fabrication: Interpret welding process specifications, operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment, and read and interpret welding blueprints, drawings, specifications, manuals, and processes.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment, brakes, shears, and other metal shaping, straightening, and bending machines.
  • Quality Control: Examine welds and ensure that they meet standards and/or specifications.
  • Maintenance and Repair: Maintain and perform minor repairs on welding, brazing, and soldering equipment.
  • Material Handling: Sort metal sheets and parts, scrap metal, and other materials.
  • Cleaning and Preparation: Operate metal cleaning equipment to remove excess welds, rust, scale, and other materials from surfaces of metal products.
  • Assistance and Support: Assist structural steel and platework fitters, sheet metal workers, metal machine operators, or other metal workers as needed.
Requirements
  • Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: 1 year to less than 2 years of experience in a related field.
  • Language: English.
  • Work Conditions: Fast-paced environment, handling heavy loads, physically demanding, attention to detail, and standing for extended periods.
  • Weight Handling: Up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
Work Environment

Our work environment is dusty, noisy, and dirty. You will be working in a fast-paced environment with heavy loads, and you must be physically demanding and able to stand for extended periods.

Equipment and Machinery Experience
  • Arc welding machine.
  • Gas welding machine.
Work Term and Hours
  • Work Term: Permanent.
  • Hours: 35 to 40 hours per week.
