Job Summary

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking an Occupational Therapist to join the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team with Vancouver Community Mental Health Services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary healthcare team by working without general supervision and providing occupational therapy services to designated clients.
  • Travel to various work locations.
  • Perform assessments on clients' occupational performance utilizing an evidence-based approach.
  • Plan and implement outcome-oriented services, evaluate their effectiveness, and act as a clinical resource for the team.
  • Prepare and maintain records.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary research.
  • Demonstrate safe and effective resource utilization and quality management, and contribute to the development, review, and promotion of occupational therapy services.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Current full registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of British Columbia (COTBC).
  • Eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT).
  • Two (2) years' recent, related clinical experience in a complex healthcare environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid driver's license. Local area travel may require the use of a personal vehicle.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Knowledge of occupational therapy theory and practice within a client/family-centered model of care.
  • Knowledge of the COTBC standards of practice and guidelines for clinical practitioners.
  • Knowledge of other healthcare disciplines and their role in client care.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based clinical practice related to designated clinical areas.
  • Knowledge of occupational therapy standardized tests and measures.
  • Knowledge of research process and methodology.
  • Ability to teach and empower clients to assume control over their health.
  • Ability to adjust to unexpected events, problem-solve, set priorities, and deal with conflict.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to communicate (orally and in writing) and deal effectively with clients and their families, coworkers, physicians, other healthcare staff, and staff of external agencies.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Trauma-Informed Practice, Harm Reduction, and Recovery-Oriented Care.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
  • Ability to provide effective consultation.
  • Ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others in a complex healthcare environment.
  • Ability to recognize when referral to another healthcare professional is required.
  • Demonstrated skill in occupational therapy techniques and the use of applicable equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to operate related equipment, including applicable software applications.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
