Job Overview

The Highway Maintenance Specialist will play a crucial role in ensuring the upkeep of contracted assets, including roadways, medians, signs, guardrails, fences, bridges, tunnels, and vegetation. This position requires a strong understanding of maintenance operations and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintenance Operations: Perform duties as shift supervisor during winter maintenance season, assisting the supervisor in organizing and planning work activities, arranging equipment and materials, and overseeing work operations to ensure compliance with safety standards and contractual agreements.
  • Leadership and Training: Provide leadership and training to junior staff members, including instructions on safety techniques, methods, and procedures.
  • Inspections and Reporting: Conduct inspections of work performed by contract staff to ensure compliance with standards and contractual agreements, advising contractors of deficiencies and reporting performance to the supervisor.
  • Administrative Activities: Complete, review, and maintain records related to equipment operation, maintenance hours, material usage, and other administrative tasks as required.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Education: High School Diploma (Required)
  • Experience: Minimum three (3) years' experience in construction, road maintenance, commercial/industry repair, maintenance, or landscaping (outdoor work)
  • Skills: Working knowledge of summer and winter maintenance operations, Occupational Health and Safety Act, maintenance and maintenance-related construction contracts, and Microsoft Office Suite
Compensation and Benefits

The estimated annual salary for this position is $65,000-$80,000, depending on location and experience. Webber Infrastructure Management Canada Limited offers a competitive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, as well as a 401(k) retirement plan.

Work Environment

This position requires working outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold. The employee will be exposed to wet and humid conditions, high places, fumes, and airborne particles. Regular driving is required, and a valid Ontario Class 'DZ' Driver's License and MTO Operator's Permit are necessary. A highly developed sense of safety awareness and perceptive ability are essential for this role.
