Medical Laboratory Technologist I, Anatomical Pathology Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technologist I, Anatomical Pathology to join our team at Provincial Laboratory Medicine Services (PLMS). As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing laboratory procedures and analyzing results according to established policies. You will also be responsible for preparing solutions, reagents, and standards for use in analysis, as well as communicating test results to appropriate parties.
Key Responsibilities
- Obtain laboratory samples from patients as required.
- Perform laboratory procedures and analyze results according to established policies.
- Prepare solutions, reagents, and standards for use in analysis.
- Communicate test results to appropriate parties.
- Assist in the evaluation of technical procedures and provide input in the development and maintenance of policy procedures.
- Participate in departmental training and orientation programs.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area according to established policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Certification with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
- One year recent related experience in the designated discipline within the last six years, and/or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Demonstrated recent working knowledge of the assigned section or sections.
- Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory procedures and technical competence to perform tests used in the assigned section of the laboratory.
- Basic awareness of research process.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure in a constantly changing environment.
- Basic knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care using point of care instrumentation.
- Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment and software.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
