Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technologist I to join our team in Anatomical Pathology. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing laboratory procedures, analyzing results, and communicating test results to healthcare teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Obtain laboratory samples from patients and perform laboratory procedures according to established policies.
  • Analyze results and communicate test findings to healthcare teams.
  • Prepare solutions, reagents, and standards for use in analysis.
  • Respond to requests for test results and communicate with healthcare teams.
  • Perform routine instrument maintenance and identify equipment malfunctions.
  • Assist in the evaluation of technical procedures and provide input on policy development.
  • Participate in departmental training and orientation programs.
  • Assist with information management and maintain inventory of supplies.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Requirements

  • Certification with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
  • One year recent related experience in the designated discipline within the last six years, and/or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Demonstrated recent working knowledge of the assigned section or sections.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory procedures and technical competence to perform tests used in the assigned section of the laboratory.
  • Basic awareness of research process.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure in a constantly changing environment.
  • Basic knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care using point of care instrumentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment and software.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada.
