Job Summary

The Prevention Specialist will play a key role in supporting managers and workers in the identification, correction, and control of environmental risks. This position will involve conducting audits, investigations, accident analyses, and risk assessments, as well as communicating the results to key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and participate in workplace inspections to identify potential hazards and risks.
  • Conduct OHS audits in the distribution center to ensure compliance with regulations and company policies.
  • Evaluate the risks present in the environment using a risk matrix to prioritize corrective actions.
  • Coach and support supervisors in incident/accident investigations and the implementation of corrective measures.
  • Verify compliance with OHS rules and procedures and communicate any deficiencies to key personnel.
  • Act as an awareness agent and intervene when necessary to promote a safe work environment.
  • Produce OHS statistical reports to analyze trends and recommend prevention programs.
  • Participate and lead health and safety committee meetings to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Participate in the update/development of the lockout program, work at height, and confined space procedures.
  • Write and communicate information on work safety and accident prevention to employee groups.

Qualifications

  • Occupational health and safety certificate or degree.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a similar position.
  • Flexible and available to work outside of regular business hours.
  • Bilingualism (French/English) is essential.
  • Ability to work in a context of continuous improvement and change.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and persuasion skills.
  • Organizational skills, rigor, and autonomy.
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations.

Physical/Cognitive Requirements

  • Ability to follow policies and procedures.
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret information.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
  • Ability to use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel.
  • Ability to sit, walk, or stand for up to 10 hours per day.
  • Ability to intermittently crawl, squat, climb, twist, bend, stoop, push, or pull.
  • Must possess visual acuity, i.e., close, distance, and color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to lift/carry items less than 40 pounds.
