The BC Public Service Agency is seeking a highly skilled Data and Information Unit Lead to join our team. As a key member of the B.C. Conservation Data Centre (BC CDC), you will play a crucial role in managing and securing critical conservation data.
About the RoleIn this exciting opportunity, you will oversee the management and security of critical conservation data, lead a team of three staff, and collaborate with various stakeholders, including Indigenous communities, natural resource ministries, and government officials.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and secure critical conservation data
- Lead a team of three staff

To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Undergraduate degree in a natural resource field, plus training or equivalent experience in geomatics, geographic information systems, or related area
- Minimum three (3) years' demonstrated experience planning, directing and organizing own work
- Minimum two (2) years' providing supervision and technical direction to professional staff / contractors
- Minimum two (2) years' demonstrated experience developing and managing large spatial and attribute data sets and experience with database management tools and applications
- Minimum of two (2) years demonstrated experience of customer service working with clients such as Indigenous governing bodies; local, regional, provincial and federal governments; consultants and professionals; and, non-profit agencies to create, deliver and support use of data for a variety of natural resource sector projects
Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
- Demonstrated experience with manipulating data using databases (e.g., a variant of SQL)
- Demonstrated experience developing methods and performing custom geo-spatial data modelling and complex analysis and interpretations
- Demonstrated experience to provide high quality customer service to diverse groups and individuals, particularly pertaining to complex data sharing
- Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous governing bodies, agencies and communities to manage Indigenous knowledge and ways of knowing alongside scientific data
