Overview

Norfolk County seeks a highly skilled and organized Court Administration Clerk to provide administrative support services to the Ontario Court of Justice, Provincial Offences Court, judiciary, prosecution, enforcement agencies, court security, and various stakeholders. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with experience in scheduling and court clerking.

Job Description

The ideal candidate will act as the primary courtroom clerk, providing high-quality front counter and telephone service by delivering information and transactional services efficiently. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing assistance with collection activities, including recording data for collection projects to assist in efforts to collect monies owing on court-ordered fines for Norfolk County;
  • Assisting the judiciary, general public, police, legal professionals, and various stakeholders with court matters and administrative inquiries;
  • Preparing court orders, jail papers, probation orders, general warrants, bench warrants, Dog Owner's Liability Act orders (DOLA), and motions;
  • Scheduling court dates, updating court dispositions onto ICON, updating court dockets, extensions, and re-openings;
  • Performing statistical reporting, including maintaining up-to-date reports for performance and budget purposes;
Requirements

To be successful in this role, applicants must have a post-secondary degree in a relevant field, such as court administration, legal administration, law, business, or office administration, or a diploma with over two years of related experience in court administration. Experience in scheduling and court clerking is an asset.

Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • A working knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of court administration and court clerking;
  • Familiarity with the Provincial Offences Act, Highway Traffic Act, Courts of Justice Act, and other related statutes and legislation;
  • Proficient computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word, as well as department-specific software such as ICON and Liberty Digital Recording System;
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to exercise discretion and judgment in dealing with the public, staff, judiciary, prosecutors, and enforcement agencies;
  • Able to multitask and handle multiple items, projects, and responsibilities independently;
  • Good communication skills and organizational abilities, with the capacity to work under pressure and maintain accurate records.
Salary

The salary for this position ranges from $26.95 to $33.65 per hour, based on the 2024 rate.
