Job Summary

The Mechanical Installation Specialist is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of machinery and equipment at Superior Essex. This role requires a highly skilled individual who can interpret blueprints, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect and assemble machinery, ensuring safe and effective use of hand and power tools
  • Relocate equipment, positioning machinery and pieces for assembly, using hoists, dollies, and trucks
  • Interpret blueprints and schematics to determine work procedures
  • Dismantle machines using hand or power tools
  • Construct foundations for new equipment using building materials
  • Align machines and equipment during installation, using hoists, jacks, squares, ruler, micrometers, and plumb bobs
  • Use a lathe to grind, file, and turn machine parts to match specifications
  • Assemble machinery and equipment by bolting, welding, riveting, or fastening to pre-built foundations
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical issues, often requiring the use of screwdrivers, wrenches, and welding torches
  • Monitor and maintain working machines, cleaning, oiling, and greasing machine parts
  • Lead apprentices and direct them to ensure successful task completion
  • Ensure safety policies, quality standards, and standard operating procedures are followed
  • Perform preventative maintenance on machines and equipment
  • Complete required paperwork

Requirements:

  • Completion of a Red Seal valid Industrial Mechanic Millwright Certification
  • Industrial Maintenance/Maintenance Millwright Technology college completion
  • Experience in moving, assembling, disassembling, troubleshooting, and repairing machinery and equipment
  • Competence in detecting, isolating, and identifying irregularities and malfunctions in machinery and equipment
  • Ability to fabricate new parts to replace defective parts during machine setup, maintenance, or overhaul
  • Thorough knowledge of load-bearing capabilities of equipment
  • Demonstrated aptitude in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, schematics, drawings, manuals, and specifications
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with quality standards
  • Accurate and highly analytical
  • Experience in supervising and mentoring apprentices
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude

Working Conditions:

  • Travel may be required
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 100 lbs
  • Manual dexterity required to use power and hand tools
  • Frequently noisy working environment
  • Overtime as required
