About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Metallurgical Engineer to join our Research and Development team at Fordia. As a key member of our engineering team, you will play a crucial role in the development of new diamond tools and the characterization of metallic and composite products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, prototype, and analyze new diamond tools in collaboration with the engineering team.
  • Characterize and analyze metallic and composite products manufactured by powder metallurgy.
  • Conduct studies on the properties and characteristics of materials.
  • Participate in tests on mining exploration drilling sites to validate products.
  • Identify, develop, and supervise research and development partnerships with companies, organizations, and educational institutions.
  • Perform patent and technology watch activities to identify new scientific directions and development opportunities.
  • Participate in meetings with site technicians to improve development projects and provide feedback on products.
  • Support the production department and subcontractors in solving manufacturing problems.
  • Support the quality department in analyzing internal or external non-conformities.
  • Provide technical training on drilling and products according to the training plan.
  • Participate in the process of applying for credits and grants for development projects.
  • Assist the purchasing department in qualifying critical suppliers.
  • Assist the continuous improvement department in deploying equipment impacting the manufacturing process.

Requirements:

  • Hold a university degree in materials or metallurgical engineering.
  • Be a member of the OIQ/PEO or a candidate for the engineering profession.
  • Have a minimum of 7 years of experience in a similar position.
  • Be bilingual in French and English, spoken and written.
  • Hold a valid driver's license and passport.
  • Be prepared for business trips of 4-6 weeks per year.

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of product development and powder metallurgy processes.
  • Knowledge of additive manufacturing (an asset).
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Sharp sense of customer service.
  • Established network of contacts in metallurgy and/or the industry (an asset).
  • Insight, adaptability, autonomy, relational agility, collaboration, and results-oriented.
