Assistant/Associate Professor for the David Brand Professorship in Sustainable Forestry and Conservation Finance

Job Summary:

The University of British Columbia's Faculty of Forestry invites applications for a tenure-stream position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor for the David Brand Professorship in Sustainable Forestry and Conservation Finance. The successful applicant will play a key role in research and teaching in the area of conservation finance and its increasing importance in advancing new ways to sustainably manage and restore forest ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research and teaching in conservation finance and its applications to sustainable forest management and restoration.
  • Develop and implement innovative financial mechanisms for conservation and sustainable forest management.
  • Collaborate with industry, NGOs, government, and Indigenous communities to advance conservation finance and sustainable forest management.
  • Contribute to the development of policy and practice in conservation finance and sustainable forest management.
Requirements:
  • PhD in environmental, forest, or natural resource finance/business, or equivalent fields.
  • Expertise in conservation finance and its applications to sustainable forest management and restoration.
  • Experience in teaching and research in conservation finance and sustainable forest management.
  • Strong potential for scientific publishing and securing research grants.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience with empirical social science research methods.
  • Experience working with Indigenous and forest-dependent communities and/or other partners.
  • Experience working internationally.
  • Strong interest or experience in conducting collaborative work.
