About the Opportunity

As a Mental Health Specialist with Nova Scotia Health Authority, you will play a key role in providing comprehensive mental health services to children and adolescents within designated Schools Plus schools. Reporting to the Manager, Child & Adolescent - Mental Health & Addictions, you will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to develop, implement, and evaluate mental health services for assigned populations.

About You
  • You hold a Master's degree in Social Work and are registered with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers or eligible for registration.
  • You have a minimum of two years' experience providing mental health services to preschoolers, children, and adolescents within a mental health setting.

You possess knowledge of the DSM-IV-5 and ability to screen for, assess, and conceptualize common childhood mental health disorders. You also demonstrate diagnostic experience completing mental health assessments and implementing evidence-based treatment plans.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Social Work
  • Current registration with Nova Scotia College of Social Workers (NSCSW) or eligible to be registered
  • Minimum two years' experience providing mental health services to preschoolers, children, and adolescents within a mental health setting
  • Knowledge of the DSM-IV-5 and ability to use to screen for, assess and conceptualize common childhood mental health disorders (ADHD, anxiety, depression, behavior disorders)
  • Demonstrated diagnostic experience completing mental health assessments and implementing evidence based treatment plans for children and adolescents

Competencies in other languages are an asset, particularly French. Leadership skills, crisis and suicide risk assessment, and intervention experience are also essential.
