Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Electrical Design Specialist to join our team at Ainsworth. The selected candidate will work in an engineering and design environment, collaborating with other experts to deliver high-quality electrical designs for utility projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create detailed electrical designs for overhead and underground systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Review and validate engineering designs and technical drawings.
  • Prepare budgetary and detailed cost estimates, considering labor, materials, and equipment costs.
  • Analyze voltage drop calculations, cable pulling calculations, transformer loading checks, and other relevant factors.
  • Evaluate construction site conditions to ensure adherence to designed specifications.
  • Maximize project revenue through unit pricing projects.
  • Collaborate with third-party contractors to facilitate the transfer of joint use attachments.
  • Work with our legal team to obtain easements and access agreements.
  • Verify existing site conditions and prepare reports.
  • Develop and maintain cost estimation templates and databases.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders, including customers, utilities, property managers, and internal teams.
  • Address customer complaints and concerns in a professional manner.
  • Adhere to company policies, health and safety guidelines, and quality control procedures.

About You

  • Certified Technician (CET) certification or working towards it is required.
  • A minimum of one year's experience in utility design is essential.
  • Prior experience in Toronto Hydro or Hydro One distribution design is considered an asset.
  • Field experience is also viewed favorably.
  • You have experience with the design of overhead and underground systems, substation layouts, pole line design, and preparation of design packages.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation and knowledge of AutoCAD are desired skills.
  • You can generate and interpret electrical documents and technical reports effectively.
  • Familiarity with SAP and GEAR technology is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) is necessary.
