Job Summary

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Facilities Maintenance Worker to join our team at the St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of our facilities, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for visitors and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain the facility and grounds, including cleaning and sanitizing surfaces, emptying trash and recyclables, and performing minor repairs.
  • Check and clean washrooms regularly, replenishing supplies as needed.
  • Collect and set out garbage for collection, ensuring timely removal of waste.
  • Clean grounds, sidewalks, parking lots, and viewing platform, maintaining a safe and attractive environment.
  • Assist visitors in a helpful and friendly manner, providing information and support as needed.
  • Check and report any problems, vandalism, or misuse of the facilities, ensuring prompt attention to any issues.
  • Open and close the facility, securing alarm systems and ensuring a secure environment.
  • Set up and tear down of on-site functions, including events and exhibitions.
  • Perform other similar and related duties as required, supporting the facilities team in maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or general educational development (GED) certificate.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment, and materials.
  • Ability to understand simple oral and written instructions and to communicate effectively and clearly with good interpersonal skills.
  • Good physical condition, with ability to lift and move heavy objects as needed.
  • Shift and weekend work are required, with flexibility to work varied hours.
  • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and WHMIS certification.
  • Proven completion of Ministry of Labour Worker Health and Safety Awareness training.
  • A demonstrated commitment to enhancing a safety culture.
Compensation and Benefits

CUPE 1287 Pay Group 1 - $19.28 to $22.04 per hour.

Expected Work Location: St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canal Centre.

Hours of Work: up to 24 hours per week.
