Social Performance Expert

ERM is seeking an experienced and motivated consultant to support our team in Canada. The successful candidate will play a key role in various social performance tasks, including stakeholder and Indigenous group engagement. Responsibilities will include coordination, data management, and strategic planning for engagement programs. The focus will be on the mining, energy, and technology sectors, with opportunities to support broad social performance programs. The candidate will work in compliance with national Canadian legislation and international best practice standards, collaborating with team members to deliver projects.
Key Responsibilities- Support social performance projects related to mining, energy, and other sectors, including research, report writing, data collection, and literature review.
- Contribute to project management activities, including health and safety protocol management, schedule and budget monitoring, and quality review of deliverables.
- Provide technical expertise in socioeconomic impact assessment, stakeholder and Indigenous engagement, due diligence, risk assessment, and monitoring and evaluation.
- Understand and apply relevant regulatory requirements, including provincial and federal permits and regulations, international standards, and industry guidance.
- Collaborate with other ERM practitioners to execute projects, participating in project teams and being accountable for project deliverables.
- Contribute to proposal development, including development of technical scopes and cost estimates in accordance with ERM's policies and processes.
- Support client relationships to maintain new and repeat business, working with other global ERM resources to deepen relationships with key clients.
- Bachelor's degree in international development, economics, social science, law, geography, public health, public policy, political science, resource management, anthropology, or a similar degree.
- 3+ years of relevant experience, including stakeholder and Indigenous group engagement, field work, impact assessment, environmental and social due diligence, and/or other activities in Canada and/or internationally.
- Experience working with local, regional, and Indigenous governments, local communities, and residents, NGOs, etc.
- Solid grasp of key social performance issues, management challenges, and opportunities related to resource development, especially mining and energy sectors, and a high degree of technical competence and broad knowledge of social performance and impact assessment best practices.
- Versatile, responsive, self-driven, accountable, and results-oriented, with strong critical thinking and analytical skills, experience developing and delivering presentations, trainings, and facilitation, and well-developed teamwork skills.
- Strong commitment to safety, including following established health and safety protocols, proven record of effective time management and ability to meet deadlines, strong oral and written communication skills, including exceptional writing skills, and fluency in English.
