About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Executive Director to lead our team at DataStream Initiative, a registered Canadian charity dedicated to advancing freshwater protection through open data flows.

The Executive Director will play a pivotal role in leveraging our strong foundation and scaling DataStream's impacts across Canada, building on our networks and competencies to tackle critical barriers to freshwater protection.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a dynamic leader to drive strategic growth and collaboration, working closely with our CEO and team to continuously improve our programming and build partnerships to meet growing demand.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Community Convening and Support: Engage with key stakeholders, including government agencies, industry partners, and community groups, to advance our mission and build partnerships.
  2. Bridging Data Collection and Analysis to Policy Action: Develop and implement strategies to ensure that our data and research findings inform policy decisions and drive meaningful action.
  3. Software Development and Sustainability: Oversee the ongoing development and maintenance of our DataStream software to ensure its long-term success and sustainability.
  4. Network Building and Collaboration: Foster strategic relationships with sector leaders, organizations, and individuals to advance our priorities and drive collective impact.
  5. Team Management and Growth: Lead and manage our remote team, providing guidance, support, and opportunities for growth and development.
Requirements

We are seeking a seasoned leader with a strong track record in:

  • 8+ years of experience in progressively senior roles in non-profit or charitable organizations.
  • 5+ years of experience building and leading high-performing teams.
  • Understanding of Canadian environmental policies and issues.
  • Experience in Government Relations at all levels, especially federal.
  • Experience managing complex projects and working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Preferred qualifications include experience in data collection and analytics software or related technology platforms, as well as fluency in French. Commercial acumen, information seeking, team skills, and impact are essential qualities for this role.
