We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse to join our team in Substance Use Services. As a key member of our interprofessional care team, you will provide and coordinate the delivery of nursing care services to clients experiencing problematic substance use.
Key Responsibilities- Assessment and Care Planning
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients' physical and psychosocial needs
- Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with the interprofessional care team
- Nursing Care and Interventions
- Provide direct nursing care to clients, including medication administration, wound care, and vital sign monitoring
- Implement crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as needed
- Education and Support
- Provide education and support to clients and their families on topics such as substance use, mental health, and wellness
- Facilitate group sessions and workshops on topics such as relapse prevention, stress management, and coping skills
- Collaboration and Communication
- Collaborate with the interprofessional care team to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care
- Communicate effectively with clients, families, and healthcare providers to ensure seamless care transitions
- Quality Improvement and Risk Management
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance nursing practice and patient outcomes
- Identify and report high-risk situations and implement strategies to mitigate risks
- Education and Experience
- Graduation from an approved Nursing Program with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
- Completion of approved addictions or substance use training, or substance use certificate program, and one year's recent related experience working in an addictions environment with individuals with substance use disorders
- Skills and Abilities
- Ability to complete initial and ongoing mental health and substance use client assessments and provide nursing care through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety-type interventions
- Knowledge of mental illness and substance use treatment, psychopharmacology, and counseling and group facilitation skills
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with clients, families/care givers, the public, medical staff, and members of the interprofessional care team
