We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Underwriter to join our Commercial Mid-Market team at CNA. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will be responsible for reviewing applications and financial requirements for complex risks, determining acceptability, and negotiating with brokers to reach profitable outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Review and analyze applications and financial requirements for complex risks, ensuring compliance with company guidelines and standards.
- Determine acceptability of risk and negotiate with brokers to reach positive and profitable outcomes.
- Prepare quotes and answers questions from brokers, policyholders, or other external contacts, escalating issues to management as necessary.
- Notify brokers of adverse underwriting decisions, rate changes, underwriting requirements, status, and declinations.
- Analyze quality, quantity, and profitability of risks underwritten and prepare reports for management review.
- Market products and services through the brokerage community and develop and maintain broker relationships.
- Provide guidance and assistance to other underwriters and functional areas, particularly on cross-sell opportunities.
- Advanced knowledge of underwriting and insurance industry theories and practices.
- Demonstrated high level of technical expertise and product-specific knowledge.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, with ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA's internal and external business partners.
- Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment to make critical business decisions.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required, with a minimum of five years underwriting experience. Professional designations are preferred.
