Department Head for Anesthesiology and Pharmacology

The University of British Columbia seeks a highly qualified and experienced individual to serve as the Head of the Department of Anesthesiology and Pharmacology. They will also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be a respected scholar and leader in the field of anesthesiology and pharmacology, with a demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate others to achieve excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership and direction to the department, aligning with the University's strategic priorities and goals. Develop and implement departmental goals, objectives, and policies that promote excellence, inclusivity, and innovation. Provide academic, administrative, and clinical leadership, ensuring the highest standards of teaching, research, and service. Foster a culture of collaboration, respect, and inclusivity among faculty, staff, and students. Develop and maintain effective relationships with external stakeholders, including hospital partners, industry partners, and government agencies. Recruit, retain, and develop talented faculty and staff, ensuring a diverse and inclusive work environment. Manage departmental resources, including budget, personnel, and facilities, to optimize efficiency and effectiveness. Stay up-to-date with emerging trends, best practices, and technologies in anesthesiology and pharmacology, and apply this knowledge to drive innovation and excellence.
Requirements
This position requires a Ph.D. in Anesthesiology or a related field, with a strong record of academic and administrative leadership. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of senior leadership, a deep understanding of the department's mission and goals, and a commitment to advancing the University's strategic priorities. They will also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders. Additionally, they will be an accomplished scholar and leader in the field of anesthesiology and pharmacology, with a demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate others to achieve excellence.
