Job Summary

The City of Iqaluit is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Municipal Enforcement Officer to join our team. As a key member of our municipal enforcement department, you will be responsible for performing a variety of enforcement duties to ensure the safety and well-being of our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enforce municipal by-laws and regulations, as well as federal laws and acts, to maintain public order and safety.
  • Operate marked enforcement vehicles and equipment, including firearms and animal control equipment, to carry out enforcement duties.
  • Conduct investigations and gather evidence to support enforcement actions.
  • Provide assistance with domestic animal control and respond to animal-related incidents.
  • Collaborate with other municipal departments and agencies to ensure effective enforcement and public safety.
Requirements
  • Valid Nunavut Class 5 Driver's License.
  • Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) or willingness to obtain within three months of employment.
  • Previous experience in municipal or law enforcement, security, policing, or a related field.
  • Knowledge and experience in dealing with by-laws, federal laws, and acts.
  • Confidence in dealing with domestic animals.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, including concise report writing.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Post-secondary diploma or certification in a related field.
  • Previous work experience as a municipal enforcement officer, constable, or peace officer.
  • Self-defense, radar, and conflict resolution training.
  • OC spray training and baton certification.
  • Fluency in Inuktitut is an asset.
