Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled Insurance Accounting Specialist to join our team at CB Canada.

As an Insurance Accounting Specialist, you will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of IFRS 17, a new accounting standard for insurance contracts. Your responsibilities will include developing requirements, identifying changes to processes, and engaging stakeholders in the business groups and units for feedback.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in troubleshooting implementation issues arising on the client as they occur and are assigned
  • Manage and prioritize multiple competing tasks and deliverables for the workstream/project
  • Understand and assist with developing solutions for the impact of IFRS 17 on how insurance businesses measure and manage financial risk, capital requirements, reinsurance, financial performance, business planning, and product design & pricing
  • Assist in model development under IFRS 17, including controls and assumptions for financial metrics and insight into drivers of change for these metrics
  • Assist and/or complete reconciliations to ensure IFRS 17 balances and accounts are accurate
  • Develop transition material to support the change to IFRS compliance
  • Create and present education materials for global stakeholders
  • Other ad-hoc duties as assigned

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:
  • Insurance accounting experience
  • Strong IFRS and insurance accounting experience
  • Professional accountant (CPA) with expertise in IFRS insurance accounting and financial control knowledge
  • Minimum 5-8 years' experience in an accounting or finance-related role
  • Knowledge of and experience with SAP GL and Hana Studio would be very helpful
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • In-depth experience in financial reporting and investment accounting
  • Demonstrated ability to assist and work within a project team for changes involving complex organizational structure and system changes

  • Willingness to roll up sleeves and support any type of work to ensure the success of the project, including performing reconciliations and testing
