Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Disease Prevention Specialist to join our team at William Osler Health System.

About the Role:

The Disease Prevention Specialist will be responsible for facilitating infection control activities and promoting health system integration in congregate living settings. This role will involve providing clinical IPAC leadership, overseeing local communities of practice, and flagging infection control concerns.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert guidance on infection prevention and control practices
  • Facilitate collaboration between Public Health, Ministry of Health, and Ontario Health
  • Conduct clinical assessments and audits to identify risks and opportunities for improvement
  • Develop and implement sustainable plans to reduce infection risk and improve patient outcomes
  • Work with community partners to promote health system integration and support capacity building
  • Flag infection control concerns and provide education to staff and stakeholders
  • Report on assessments and risks to ensure timely intervention and mitigation

Requirements:

  • Degree in a health-related discipline (e.g., nursing, laboratory, epidemiology)
  • Current registration with a regulatory body in Ontario
  • Previous experience as an infection control practitioner or similar role
  • Completion of an entry-level infection control course required
  • Certified in Infection Prevention and Control preferred or commitment to complete within two years
  • Strong knowledge of infectious diseases, microbiology, epidemiology, and statistics
  • Proficiency in computer databases, spreadsheets, and literature search
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
