About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team at Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the pre and post-analytical phases of testing, including specimen procurement, data entry, media preparation, and customer service activities.

The ideal candidate will have a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent, and be registered with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS). Strong written and verbal communication skills, basic understanding of medical terminology, and manual dexterity to handle sharp instruments are essential. Ability to accurately number and label specimens, adapt to updates in operating procedures, and possess basic computer skills are also required.

This is a permanent, part-time position with 37.5 hours bi-weekly, offering a competitive hourly rate of $23.19 - $26.27. Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package, including health, dental, travel, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.

  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to interact with various stakeholders
  • Ability to adapt to updates and changes in operating procedures
  • Basic computer skills and experience with Meditech is preferred
  • Access to reliable transportation as travel may be required
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
