Domestic Violence Risk Assessment Specialist

The City of Calgary is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Domestic Violence Risk Assessment Specialist to join our team. As a key member of the Domestic Conflict Unit, you will play a critical role in assessing and reviewing reports of domestic violence, mental health, criminal harassment, and Emergency Protection Orders.
Key Responsibilities- Assess and review reports of domestic violence, mental health, criminal harassment, and Emergency Protection Orders to determine potential risk and required intervention strategies.
- Provide structured professional judgments for potential risk and actions associated with all decisions.
- Ensure quality control by identifying, monitoring, and advising the appropriate Police supervisor of discrepancies with regards to Policy and Procedures of the Calgary Police Service, Provincial legislation, and the Criminal Code of Canada.
- Respond to direct inquiries from sworn and civilian police personnel and make calls on behalf of the Domestic Conflict Unit.
- Liaise with outside agencies and evaluate and respond for information, guidance, and referrals regarding family and individuals at risk in domestic situations.
- A diploma in Social Sciences or Justice and a minimum of 3 years of related experience, including direct experience providing risk and threat assessment.
- Risk Assessment and Management Certification is preferred, using tools such as Historical Clinical Risk Management-20 (HCR20), Brief Spousal Assault Form for the Evaluation of Risk (B-SAFER), Spousal Assault Risk Assessment Guide (SARA), and/or Stalking Assessment and Management (SAM).
- Successful candidates must be willing to complete Violence Risk Assessment and Management Certification as required.
- Experience and training in safety planning and victim resources is required.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, change management, coaching and development, and relationship building are essential.
- A strong communicator with a proven ability to organize and manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
Exposure to disturbing and graphic content in domestic violence police files is a requirement of this role.
