About the Role

The Métis Nation of Ontario is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Financial Manager to join our team. As a key member of our Finance Branch, you will play a critical role in overseeing and supporting the day-to-day activities of our Finance Branch employees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the overall financial operations of the Métis Nation of Ontario, providing accurate information to the C-Suite and PCMNO, including analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and preparing financial reports.
  • Manage the accounting operations, including the review of journal entries, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and statutory reporting.
  • Establish and monitor internal controls to ensure that accounting activities are in accordance with established legal, regulatory, and company policies and procedures.
  • Elevate critical financial issues to the Director, Finance and CFO.
  • Effectively oversee the performance management of the Finance Branch, ensuring appropriate coaching, skills building, and accountability as required.
  • Manage the year-end external audit by coordinating the preparation of working papers and provision of materials to external auditors.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in the field of Finance, Accounting, or a similar related field is required. An MBA is preferred.
  • A clear and solid understanding of the issues faced by the Métis Nation of Ontario and Métis and Indigenous People in Ontario.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve conflicts and to manage challenging situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly acquire and expand knowledge and to be flexible in a demanding and dynamic environment.
  • A high degree of technology literacy and proficiency in standard office equipment.
  • Strong communication skills in English, spoken and written.
  • Minimum 5 years' previous experience in senior financial management.
  • Experience and knowledge of accounting systems, internal controls, business planning, and asset management.
  • Proven experience coaching, mentoring, and developing employees, and building high-performance teams.
