Job Title: Healthcare Navigator for Cree Community

Salary: Estimated $60,000 - $80,000 per year

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and culturally sensitive individual to join our team as a Primary Care Community Representative. In this role, you will work collaboratively with healthcare professionals to support the delivery of clinical services to clients aged 0 to 29 years old in the Awash region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a liaison to help individuals navigate the medical system and facilitate understanding between non-indigenous healthcare workers and Cree culture and values.
  • Report on medical files after patient consultations.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams and inter-professional meetings with community workers, nurses, doctors, nutritionists, dental professionals, psychoeducators, social workers, and other community health services staff.
  • Provide emotional support to clients.
  • Contribute to intervention plans.
  • Promote health awareness in the community through outreach, pamphlets, workshops, and radio programs.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by your immediate supervisor.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • A high school diploma.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to translate information from Cree to English (or vice versa) in an oral or written format.
  • Motivation to work in a health field, promoting education, prevention, and illness support in a holistic manner.
  • Sensitivity when dealing with behavior problems.
  • Good critical thinking, synthesis, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Emotional maturity.
  • Autonomy, flexibility, discretion, and empathy.
  • Strong teamwork and dynamism, with a sense of accountability and resourcefulness.
  • Fluency in Cree and English.
