Job Summary:
The Indigenous Women's Healing Centre is seeking a skilled and compassionate Cultural Support Specialist to join our team at the North Star Lodge. As a key member of our service team, you will provide culturally sensitive supports, guidance, and teachings to our residents, enabling them to achieve positive change and growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide access to culturally relevant ceremonies and serve as a role model for our residents.
- Collaborate with the Operations Manager to develop and implement culturally sensitive programs and services.
- Conduct or assist in Sweats, Teaching Circles, and other healing ceremonies, ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all participants.
- Develop and maintain relationships with community members and organizations to enhance our services and support the well-being of our residents.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of policies and procedures that promote cultural safety and awareness.
- Provide excellent verbal and written communication skills, ensuring effective collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of cultural safety principles and practices, and contribute to the creation of a safe and inclusive environment for all.
- May be required to speak an Indigenous language, with a strong asset being proficiency in an Indigenous language.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Previous experience and community recognition as a cultural resource.
- Previous experience in providing cultural supports to the community, including conducting or assisting in Sweats, Teaching Circles, and other healing ceremonies.
- Knowledge of culturally relevant approaches and practices.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a service team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of cultural safety.
- Ability to speak an Indigenous language (asset).
- Driver's license required.
