Plumber - Trades Specialist

As a skilled tradesperson, you will perform a variety of tasks related to plumbing, including maintenance, repair, and renovation work. You will work with gas, air, water, and waste disposal systems, as well as interior and exterior water mains and drainage systems throughout the University.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform maintenance, repair, and renovation work on plumbing systems
• Handle low-risk asbestos or other hazardous insulation materials following UBC policy and procedures
• Carry out repair on machinery and equipment, inspection tests, diagnoses defects in equipment, taking remedial action as required or recommending solution to Head/Sub-Head Tradesperson verbally or written
• Prepare cost estimates for jobs and orders required materials
• Work from oral and written instructions, work orders and drawings
Requirements
• Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one's own
• Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one's own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion
• A trade certification to journeyperson level as a plumber, valid BC Gas Fitter B License with electrical endorsement for low voltage, BC Cross Connection Control certificate and Valid BC Drivers Licence
• Minimum 5 years of related experience
• Ability to interpret drawings and specifications, sketches of work required and maintenance manuals
• Effective oral and written communication, organizational and problem solving skills
• Ability to work both independently and within a team environment
• Ability to provide quality service to customers in a courteous, patient manner
• Ability to develop and maintain cooperative and productive working relationships
• Ability to work various shift patterns dependent upon operational needs
• Familiarity with controls and HVAC an asset
