Job Description

Job Title: Designated Early Childhood Educator

Job Summary:

The Designated Early Childhood Educator is a key member of the Catholic School team, responsible for providing a Catholic education to students. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the classroom teacher and other support staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement daily play and inquiry-based learning opportunities that support the holistic development of children, including their spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and physical growth.
  • Work with the classroom teacher to create a warm and welcoming environment that reflects the Catholic values of the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board.
  • Implement the Kindergarten Program, following the guidelines set by the Program Department, Ministry of Education, and Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops.
  • Provide positive social and emotional learning experiences that promote pro-social skill development, including sharing, problem-solving, emotional regulation, and cooperation.
  • Work with school and community resources to support the needs of diverse learners, including students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Contribute to the completion of the initial Observation and the Kindergarten Communication of Learning.
  • Organize field trips and supervise students during these activities.
  • Participate in the preparation and supervision of the classroom and playground areas.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to children with self-care, washroom routines, dressing, lunchtime, and other nutritional activities and needs.
  • Communicate with parents and families regarding student assessments and progress.
  • Respond to difficult situations and take appropriate action in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
  • Observe Health and Safety Standards.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with community services providers working with children.
  • Provide guidance to families, supply staff, students, and volunteers regarding program planning, childcare, and community resources.
  • Communicate in a sensitive and courteous manner with students, families, and the general public on pertinent information.
  • Maintain confidentiality, including staff, student, and family information.
  • Maintain appropriate records for students, including health and attendance records.
  • Attend staff meetings, school-level meetings, and professional development activities as required.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Degree in Early Childhood Education (E.C.E.).
  • Registered Member, in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
  • Catholic Pastoral Reference (dated within the last 12 months).

Experience:

  • Minimum three years' experience working as an Early Childhood Educator.
  • Experience in planning and implementing developmentally age-appropriate programs.
  • Experience in working with various outreach and community development programs is an asset.
  • Experience working in a school system is an asset.
