The School of Life Science & Business offers dynamic high-tech, hands-on learning opportunities in animal health, business, horticulture, and more. Our National Meat Training Centre is a one-of-a-kind program in North America, teaching meat cutting and slaughter skills. The programme has graduated over 500+ students, many of whom now play a major role in the Canadian meat industry.

Job Title: Service Worker, Meat Centre

This Service Worker position is an integral support to the National Meat Training Centre. Key job functions include:

Customer Service and Sales
  • Demonstrate strong sales aptitude and provide excellent customer service.
  • Operate Point of Sale System and maintain accurate records.
  • Share product knowledge with customers and resolve issues promptly.
  • Prepare and organize display counters daily to ensure optimal product display.
Safety and Cleanliness
  • Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to workplace policies and practices.
  • Ensure high standards of cleanliness throughout the meat centre, including equipment, work surfaces, and storage areas.
  • Follow cleaning schedules, sanitizing tools, equipment, and work areas to meet regulatory health standards.
Support Slaughter, Meat Processing & Meat Preparation
  • Perform various meat processing and preparation tasks, including knife cutting, tying steaks and roasts, sausage production, and meat curing.
  • Handle and store raw and finished meat products according to health and safety regulations.
  • Operate basic meat processing equipment and maintain packaging equipment for safe and efficient use.
Education/Experience/Skills/Knowledge Required
  • A Meat Processing certificate or equivalent experience is required.
  • Proficiency in utilizing software programmes such as Madgetech, Data Logger, BMS, and Cooler Temperature records.
  • Point of Sale experience would be beneficial.
