We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Camp Director to lead our summer programs at the Prosserman JCC. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of our camp operations, including staff development and retention.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement a strategic plan for the growth and development of our multi-campus camping program, aligning with the greater mission and vision of the JCC.
- Work closely with our senior team to ensure that camp is a key component of our community engagement strategy, strengthening the connection between camp families and the JCC 12 months a year.
- Identify and anticipate trends in camping, Jewish identity building, and youth development, incorporating them into our programs and culture.
- Set short- and long-term goals for program innovation, staff development, and increased community impact.
- Lead initiatives to enhance our camp's reputation as a premier destination for both campers and staff, ensuring high standards of quality and a deep connection to community.
- Develop and manage annual budget and long-range financial forecasting.
- Manage business operations, including partnerships, rentals, facility requirements, etc.
- Work with our fundraising team to support families on financial assistance and apply for grants.
- Ensure compliance with camping standards and Health and Safety requirements.
- Work with our VP of Marketing to create and execute an effective marketing and outreach strategy to attract new campers/staff and retain current ones.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with families, emphasizing personalized communication and engagement throughout the year.
- Conduct post-camp evaluations and feedback sessions to identify areas of improvement for increased retention.
- Ensure program quality and industry standards are met and consistently strengthened.
- Expand program offerings by seeking new opportunities for campers and staff.
- Manage classic and specialty camp programs, including Hebrew Camp, the Leadership Program, and Sports Camp.
- Ensure the mission of The Jack and Pat Kay Centre Camp is always at the centre of summer programming.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and performance evaluations to support the development of our full-time camp staff team.
- Ensure the high-level recruitment, hiring, training, and management of 200+ seasonal camp staff.
- Minimum 5 years' experience running a camp of the same size, plus at least 5 years managing/supervising staff.
- Experience working in a not-for-profit organization is an asset.
- Exceptional financial and business acumen, including analytics, with a successful track record of managing a budget of $2 million or more.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Organized and able to manage and prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and manage time.
- Take initiative to solve problems and be willing to seek assistance in solving problems.
- Communicate well in written communication and verbally.
- Can handle emergency and crisis situations.
- Provide excellent customer service and be customer/member-focused.
- Knowledgeable of Jewish holidays and rituals.
- Understanding of Israel and its culture.
- Able to use Jewish knowledge to develop curriculum and program outline for children, youth, and families.
