Claims Specialist

We're seeking a seasoned Claims Specialist to join our National EBI/Energy Specialty Claims team at Intact Financial Corporation.
As a Claims Specialist, you will be responsible for handling complex large loss claims through various distribution channels. Your expertise will be utilized to manage, investigate, analyze, negotiate, and resolve large and complex commercial, energy, and equipment breakdown property claims with exposures exceeding $1 million.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and investigate complex claims, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
- Engage and manage consultants, independent adjusters, accountants, and engineers to confirm coverage, determine liability, and assess damages.
- Mentor and guide regional file handlers to ensure consistent and effective claims handling and support long-term succession planning.
- Train colleagues on complex claims handling and best practices.
- Collaborate with Underwriting and Loss Prevention to identify potential risks, hazards, and trends.
- Provide exceptional customer service to brokers, customers, and colleagues.
- Deliver and exceed key performance indicators related to loss development, loss adjustment expenses, claims leakage control, and expense management.
- Leverage expertise in a creative, continuous improvement environment to support best practice operations.
- Effectively negotiate claims and attend settlement conferences and trials as needed.
- 10+ years of experience in direct handling of large and complex commercial property claims, with a minimum of 5 years of experience handling large and complex equipment breakdown and energy claims.
- Technical expertise acquired through extensive experience in direct handling of large and complex property claims.
- Critical thinking and intellectual curiosity when approaching complex problems in time-sensitive situations.
- Strong communication skills to foster favorable business relationships and provide clear guidance to clients.
- Problem-solving skills to gather information, evaluate situations, and negotiate next steps toward a solution.
- Ability to adapt to changing needs and understand the need to be flexible and agile.
- Strong planning and organizational skills to establish an effective strategy.
- Collaborative mindset and passion for mentoring and coaching others.
- Appropriate knowledge of relevant regulatory and legal requirements applicable to this position.
- Undergraduate degree or CIP designation (asset).
- Flexible travel as needed.
