Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Rehabilitation Assistant to join our team at Fraser Health. As a key member of our rehabilitation team, you will play a vital role in supporting residents with their rehabilitative activities and promoting optimal function and independence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist residents with established rehabilitative activities, such as mobility and strengthening exercises, walking programs, and activities of daily living.
  • Demonstrate the use of prescribed treatment/adaptive devices, such as braces, wheelchairs, seating devices, and walkers, modified eating utensils, and personal care items, as directed.
  • Participate in the retraining for optimal function in residents' personal/self-care related to activities of daily living, by assisting with self-care, meal management, eating utensils, and modification of clothing, as required.
  • Assist residents with dressing and toilet needs, as required, in preparation for and following rehabilitative treatment; assist with resident lifting/transfers and positioning, as directed.
  • Transport residents to and from rehabilitative treatment areas, utilizing mechanical aids, such as wheelchairs and stretchers.
  • Attend resident care conferences and other related meetings, such as in-services and educational sessions, as directed, and participate in department quality improvement initiatives.
  • Report observations of residents' behavior and progress to Therapist/Nurse; communicate concerns and/or changes to the resident's condition.
  • Complete resident care statistics and records program information, as per established procedures.
  • Set up and organize equipment for related activities, as directed; clean and maintain equipment and report malfunctioning equipment to appropriate staff.
  • Maintain established inventory of equipment, devices, and materials.
Qualifications
  • Completion of a Rehabilitation Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
