Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Medical Transcriptionist, Anatomical Pathology to join our team at Provincial Laboratory Medicine Services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Transcribe medical dictation, including autopsy, surgical, and bone marrow reports, as well as medicolegal consultation reports, from dictation equipment and/or written drafts.
  • Print, copy, and distribute reports and other documents as necessary.
  • Enter patient demographics, specimen description, and results into computer systems.
  • Maintain filing systems of various files, records, slides, etc.
  • Book and schedule admission and discharge of outpatients as required.
  • Prepare and type material such as correspondence, papers, lectures, procedure manuals, memoranda, letters, and reports from dictation and/or handwritten drafts.
  • Perform reception-related duties, including answering incoming calls, taking messages, answering inquiries, and referring as appropriate, and opening and distributing mail.
  • Perform related clerical duties, including photocopying, forwarding slides as requested, and filing.
  • Undertake other related duties as required.
Requirements
  • Grade 12 graduation from an approved program in medical transcription and one year's recent, related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to keyboard at 60 wpm.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political, and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism, and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (The Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).
