City of Vancouver: Strategic Urban Planner II Role

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Strategic Urban Planner II to join our team in the Planning, Urban Design & Sustainability department. Located on the traditional lands of the xwməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Peoples, the City of Vancouver is committed to becoming a city of reconciliation.

The Strategic Urban Planner II will play a key role in the development and implementation of land use policy, guidelines, and bylaws. This position requires strong project management skills, ability to interpret and apply city policy, and proven experience in public and stakeholder engagement initiatives.

Job Overview:

This 12-month temporary full-time position will focus on planning in the Railtown Industrial Area, with potential for extension. The successful candidate will have experience in community engagement, policy research, data analysis, and Council report writing. They will also be able to convene and work with technical and citizen advisory groups to support policy planning initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement project work plans related to community planning policy and programs
  • Conduct comprehensive project management and public, stakeholder, and community engagement initiatives
  • Research, analyze, and write policy reports and recommendations for City Council
  • Work with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement urban planning policies and projects
  • Communicate complex ideas through Council reports and presentations
  • SUPERVISE AND MENTOR STAFF
Required Qualifications:
  • University degree in a related field such as Community Planning, Public Policy, Economics, or Business Administration, and several years of professional experience related closely to the duties of the position; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Membership or eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners is desired
Compensation:

The salary for this position ranges from $56.27 to $66.55 per hour, based on experience. We offer a competitive compensation package that includes flexible work arrangements and opportunities for professional growth and development.
