About the Role:

Oak Valley Health is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented individual to fill the role of Unit Secretary. This position is a vital part of our healthcare team, responsible for providing exceptional patient care and administrative support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide efficient and accurate administrative support to our clinical team, including reception duties, telephone communication, and filing of physician orders.
  • Answer and monitor the patient call bell system, ensuring timely responses to patient needs.
  • Provide information related to patient care, as authorized by the Patient Care Manager or delegate.
  • Assist the Clinical Leader/Facilitating Nurse as required.
  • Perform general clerical duties, including filing, ordering supplies, and payroll.
  • Coordinate the replacement of staff for sick calls.
  • Monitor and assess IT support computer equipment.
  • Participate in special projects, as requested.

Requirements:

  • Previous unit secretary experience, with hospital experience preferred.
  • Sound knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable within different units of the healthcare organization.
  • Proficient computer and typing skills.
  • Strong customer service, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with a high attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interprofessional team, as well as independently.
  • Demonstrated good attendance record, with the ability to maintain this standard.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital-related policies, health and safety legislation, and best practices, and completing relevant mandatory education, as required.
